ADHD Therapy Built For All Ages
Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood that commonly persists into adulthood. Ten million adults have ADHD. ADHD is usually diagnosed in early childhood, and boys are three times more likely to be diagnosed than girls, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that boys are more likely to have ADHD. The issue lies with that ADHD presents differently in girls and is harder to diagnose because of those differences.
About 6.1 million children in the United States (9.4%) between ages 2 to 17 are estimated to have been diagnosed with ADHD, according to a 2016 study from the CDC.
About 4% of American adults over the age of 18 deal with ADHD on a daily basis.
ADHD is a disorder that affects every part of life, from school, home, work, and social interactions. ADHD therapy Charlotte NC can help children, teens, or adults learn to manage their ADHD so they can lead a happy, fulfilling life.
When it comes to children with ADHD, it takes a combined effort from parents, professionals, and sometimes medication to help children learn to manage their ADHD. Behavioral therapy has shown to be very effective when treating children with ADHD.
Adults with ADHD also benefit greatly from therapy, particularly cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which can help adults with ADHD, who are often demoralized after years of unmet expectations and struggling without success managing their symptoms. CBT helps address negative thought processes and learn ways to improve daily life struggles, like procrastination, time management, and impulsive behaviors.
At Bright View Counseling, we utilize a unique method we call “Therapy With A Twist!” This method incorporates interactivity into each session through the use of tools, activities, and games. We also use nature’s therapeutic properties to our advantage. We take walks and use the physical surroundings. With these approaches, clients can more easily process their thoughts and feelings. We also have our office dog, Charlotte, come in to help out, providing comfort, companionship, and grounding for clients in session.
We incorporate this method depending on what works best and suits each client’s needs the best. This style is particularly well suited to working with children and teens.
With all sessions being performed remotely and many people wanting to continue with virtual therapy, we have adapted this method to work with teletherapy. We have clients participate in sessions while sitting outdoors, go for virtual walks, and participate in games and activities virtually. We’ve even done virtual fishing with a client! It all depends on what works best for each individual.
Bright View Counseling was founded in 2020 by therapist Michael Clark-Borenstein, LCMHC (Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor), to provide therapy and counseling services that break the mold to clients in Charlotte, North Carolina. We utilize several different counseling and therapy techniques to give our clients the best experience and results, including our “Therapy With A Twist!” method.
The CDC recommends that children with ADHD receive behavioral therapy. It is also recommended that parents of young children with ADHD also receive training from a therapist to find the best techniques for helping their child. This way, parents can learn the best ways to communicate with their children and help them make changes that will improve their school and social lives. The first step towards overcoming ADHD as an adult or for a child is education. The second step is usually finding a therapist that works for you or your child.
Our counseling style is particularly suited to children and adolescents, although we have clients from every age group. Ideal clients are ages seven and up. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, anxiety, depression, ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), life stressors and adjustments, and behavioral modifications.
We would love to schedule a time to talk to you more about how we can help! We serve clients throughout the Charlotte area, providing quality therapy and counseling for ADHD, anxiety, depression, and more!
