Anxiety therapy Charlotte NC can differ greatly depending on the type of anxiety you may have. Someone with social anxiety would face a different treatment process in therapy than someone with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
We mainly use a combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) to help our clients work through their anxiety. CBT has proven to be one of the most effective anxiety therapy Charlotte NC techniques used to treat panic disorders, phobias, social anxiety disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder, among many other conditions. CBT has two major steps that work in tandem, the first being cognitive therapy, which examines how negative thoughts contribute to anxiety. The second step is behavior therapy, which examines how you behave and react in situations that trigger anxiety.
Dialectical behavior therapy is a specific form of CBT we utilize. DBT is all about two things, acceptance and change. Through teaching and practicing mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation, you can accept your anxiety while also working to change it.
At Bright View Counseling, we also utilize a unique therapy method we call “Therapy With A Twist!” We break out of the traditional mold for talk therapy by incorporating activities, tools, and games with this method. Nature can be very therapeutic, so we try to use that to our advantage. We take walks and use the environment. These practices can help clients process thoughts and feelings. We also have our office dog Charlotte come in to help out, providing comfort, companionship, and grounding for clients who are comfortable with that.
With all sessions being performed remotely at this time and many people wanting to continue with virtual therapy into the future, we have adapted our methodology to work with teletherapy as well. We have clients participate in sessions while sitting outdoors, go for virtual walks, and participate in games and activities virtually. We’ve even done virtual fishing!
