Professional Charlotte NC Therapist & Counselor
I pursued my academic journey at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Keen to deepen my expertise, I obtained a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU).
I’m proud to be recognized as a National Certified Counselor by the NBCC and hold a license as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) in North Carolina, accredited by the North Carolina Board of Clinical Counselors.
Since childhood, I’ve had a deep fascination with the natural sciences. This curiosity led me to study biology and psychology during my undergraduate years. It was there that I fell in love with the nuances of the human mind and began to understand its profound impact on our lives.
My own experiences with therapy played a pivotal role in shaping my career choice. I faced significant mental health challenges while completing my undergraduate degree. Those times were tough, but they also sparked immense personal growth, a journey that I am still navigating. This period in my life not only introduced me to the benefits of therapy but also coincided with my academic advisor’s suggestion to add a psychology minor to my biology degree. This coincidence seemed like fate, steering me toward a career in mental health counseling.
The path to becoming a counselor was both incredibly rewarding and challenging. It demanded not just academic rigor but also deep personal reflection and growth. Every step of my education and practice pushed me to evolve personally and professionally. Today, I remain committed to this journey of self-improvement. I am continually excited to learn, grow, and discover innovative ways to collaborate with clients and colleagues. My past experiences and drive to help my local community have been invaluable in equipping me to support those I work with.
As my counseling career continues to grow, I’m thrilled to share my areas of mental health expertise. My path in this profession began during my graduate studies, where I gained invaluable experience working at a substance abuse and mental health facility. For nine months, I provided both group and individual counseling, laying the foundation for my career.
I’ve worked predominantly with adults struggling with substance abuse. However, I’ve also worked with adolescents and have dealt with a variety of mental health challenges. I am particularly motivated to work with couples and plan on further training to enhance my skills in addressing children and family dynamics.
I have extensive experience with counseling for substance abuse, anxiety, schizoaffective disorders, and trauma. In addition to these areas, I have a specific interest in therapy for relationships, depression, and more. My goal is to continue growing in these specialties, providing compassionate and effective counseling to those in need.
I firmly believe that counseling is a dynamic and transformative process. It’s about creating a safe space where individuals can explore themselves, their relationships, and more in the short- and long-term. My focus in mental health is to address both the “mental” and “health” aspects of this concept, encompassing the full spectrum of an individual’s life. When done right, the counseling process can significantly enhance well-being across all aspects of each individual’s life.
I consider my passion, compassion, patience, and active listening skills to be some of my strongest attributes as a counselor. These qualities are central to my approach, alongside unconditional positive regard, active collaboration, and consistent effort. In every session, I strive to bring these values to the forefront, ensuring a meaningful and effective therapeutic experience.
Self-care is a critical component of my personal and professional life. In my own time, I create a consistent routine to establish proper self-care practices. Some of these activities I maintain include daily deep-breathing mindfulness meditation, regular stretching, a weekly workout routine, reading for pleasure and knowledge, spending quality time with loved ones, and connecting with nature. These practices not only help me avoid burnout but also ensure that I remain present and fully engaged in my work as a counselor. I believe in leading by example, demonstrating the importance of self-care in achieving and maintaining mental wellness.
Over the next 5 to 10 years, I am dedicated to broadening my expertise and training to serve a diverse range of individuals and mental health issues. My goal is to continue providing full-time therapy while working towards obtaining a doctorate degree, which would deepen my knowledge and enhance my ability to help others.
Currently, I am expanding my skills in couples counseling and exploring therapeutic approaches to relationships. I am passionate about bringing a creative touch to mental health counseling, constantly seeking innovative ways to connect with and assist my clients.
Additionally, I aspire to be involved in research that advances treatment methods and contributes to the growth of the mental health counseling field. I aim to participate in projects that expand the scope of therapy services, ultimately benefiting a broader spectrum of individuals. This pursuit of knowledge emphasizes my commitment to evolving as a professional and making a meaningful impact in the world of mental health.
